At the age of 14 he was aware of the presence of spirit energy around him. At the age of 16 he was publicly active in mediumship as a Spiritualist. Because of his young age, he was known as the kitten orator. Because of his mediumship, tables and furniture moved during seances and was very good at automatic writing.
